UNBELIEF HINDERS FAITH AND THE HEALING POWER OF GOD.
The greatest hindrance to receiving God's blessings especially healing is unbelief. The most important law that governs the healing power of God is that unbelief will short-circuit that power. The unbelief in Jesus’ home town of Nazareth hindered Him from ministering His healing power to them. It also hindered the sick there from receiving. Your own faith in ministering healing to the sick is not the determining factor in whether they are healed or not. Neither is it an anointing of power. Wasn’t Jesus a man of faith? Wasn’t He anointed with power? Do you know anyone who had more faith and more power than Jesus? Yet He could do no mighty work in His home town of Nazareth (Mark 6:5-6). The people’s unbelief nullified Jesus’ faith and power. He couldn’t do any great miracles there.
Believers need to understand that God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit can’t do anything they want. The human will and receptivity have a lot to do with it. Look at the following verse.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Rev. 3:20).
Why can’t Jesus just open the door and come in? Because He needs our faith and cooperation. Our own personal wills have a lot to do with it.
An atmosphere and an environment of unbelief can hinder God from moving and suffocate the faith of others. I remember my wife Carolyn receiving a word of knowledge for critically ill people in a meeting once. She went to the leader of the meeting to tell him and then called me up to pray and help her minister to the sick that were called forward. Several other leaders were sitting on the platform. When we started laying hands on the sick we both felt restricted in the Spirit. She looked up and in the Spirit saw a ceiling of unbelief over that entire meeting that was coming from the leaders on the platform. Well, that hindered us from ministering, and most of all, the critically ill people from receiving.
One time Jesus had to even lead a blind man out of a certain town because of the unbelief in that town.
“Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town” (Mark 8:22-23).
Friends, we need to be sensitive and realize that unbelief is a thief and a robber of God’s blessings, and it short-circuits the healing power of God. As I sated, there are laws that govern the healing power of God just as there are laws that govern electricity. When you throw the switch or break contact the electricity can’t flow through to benefit people and vice versa. Faith is the switch that turns on the power. There is no transmission of healing power until contact.
This brings me to yet another law that governs the flow of healing power called contact and transmission. It was when the woman with the issue of blood made contact with the healing power of God through her vibrant faith that power flowed into her and made her whole. Although others in the crowd were touching Jesus she apparently was the only one who mixed faith with her touch. One can hear the Word and profit nothing from it because they don’t mix faith with it.
“For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it” (Heb. 4:2).
