Many years ago as a young single missionary I did a lot of extra praying and seeking God. Every opportunity I had I prayed the prayers in Ephesians 1:16-23 and Ephesians 3:14-21 for myself. Soon the eyes of my understanding became flooded with wisdom and revelation concerning Jesus’ complete victory over Satan in His triumph at the cross. I began to understand the seating of Christ at the right hand of God and how all saints are seated with Him. This is one of the reasons I don’t chase devils or am even very conscious of them. If they show up I exercise my authority in Christ over them. I don’t need a detailed manual to do that.
I just talked with a young missionary yesterday who lost his marriage because his wife was so demon conscious and had to go through certain rituals to make sure her family was safe from every curse. Everything was about “warfare”. She lived trying to defeat a foe who had already been defeated. Her husband lived more on the victory side because he had an understanding of the triumph of Jesus over every principality and power. This strife ruined their marriage.
I saw this trend in the 1980’s and it’s come back around again in the last decade. Believers have been ignorant of Satan’s devices, and he’s been able to take advantage of them. There seems to be these kind of fads and trends that come around every 25-30 years. I’ve seen it with prophets and apostles, spiritual warfare, demonology and deliverance, worship, etc. People love the sensational, and they will chase it.
Let me encourage you to give voice to your redemption. Pray from the position of being seated in the heavenlies. Sing songs of redemption. Know your rights and authority in Christ. Read after trusted authors. Listen to trusted fathers in the faith. Right now many believers are throwing away Mike Bickle’s teachings. They are realizing that there was much error there in prayer and prophecy.
When a man is theologically impoverished, biblically illiterate, but wants to sound religiously deep, he makes stuff up and makes things sound sensational, so he can gain a following. I know a young prophet given to dreams who always speaks of angels giving messages in his dreams. Recently he confessed to lying. I honor him tor that, but now I’ve lost some confidence in him. You can forgive people, but that doesn’t mean you have to trust them.
Beware of the many strange doctrines floating around today.
“Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace…” (Hebrews 13:9)
Nothing can add or take away from the victory of Christ.
Learn to live from that victory.
Bert Farias' books are forerunners to personal holiness, the move of God and the return of the Lord. They also combat the departure from the faith and the turning away from the truth we are seeing in our day. His recent five-book bundle, written under a fresh anointing, is a forerunner of what the Lord is doing in His church today.
